A 15 month old child has his life claimed after being attacked by a pitbull in East London, SA. Reports indicate that the neighbour’s dog attacked the baby who was playing with it at the moment when it saw a passerby with another dog passing nearby the farm fence. The pitbull ended up turning on the toddler and biting him in the upper body.
One of the neighbours who lives in the house in front of where the boy was injured heard his crying in pain and called the ambulance to help him. But, unfortunately, the boy has died in the hospital.
_ After failing to leave the yard, the pit bull is alleged to have returned to the child and bitten him on the upper body. Paramedics were called to transport the child to a nearby hospital, where he was reported to have succumbed to his injuries. _ confirmed Thembinkosi Kinana.
The incident has been reported to the SPCA and now the police are investigating the case. Neither the boy’s parents nor the dog’s owner spoke about the case. In 2022, the nation has registraded five incidents with the breed in less than a week in November.
The ”Daily Dispatch” reported the other baby who was one-year-old has passed away at the Frere Hospital on Wednesday after being bitten by a dog of the same breed which belongs to a community’s resident. Two children got attacked by a pitbull in the same city.
As the number of children being killed by pitbulls in South African are increasing, citizens have been considering regulating the breeding of the dog’s race in the country.
The Sizwe Kupelo Foundation suggested castrating male pitbulls, sterilising the female ones and ban the authorization to have the animal as a pet in order to prevent these incidents from continuing.
Founder and patron of the Sizwe Kupelo Foundation, Sizwe Kupelo has claimed to the Police Minister Bheki Cele, Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla and Agriculture Minister Thoko Didiza appealing to the intervention.
_ This is not an animal that can be kept as a domestic animal; it should be classified as a wild animal. _ said Kaupelo following the death of Storm Nuku, a 10-year-old boy who was mauled by death after playing with his family’s pitbulls in Gbqeberha on Monday.
